Kinsella Group at OMTEC
We attended the OMTEC Expo at the Stephenson Convention Center in Rosemont, IL June 14 – 15. This show is an opportunity for orthopedic contract manufacturers to exhibit their capabilities and meet with their customers from the OEM community.
The show was well attended, with exhibitors describing good traffic within their respective booths. I noted that a number of exhibitors that I had not seen at prior OMTEC Expos were in attendance this year. New exhibitors came from nearby places such as Minnesota and from faraway places such as Ireland. Some industry participants chose not to exhibit, but were in attendance and had reserved conference rooms to meet with customers and prospects.
The mood was quite upbeat, with implant manufacturers in particular describing strong volumes along with good backlogs as they entered the second half of 2017. Instrument manufacturers did say the first half of the year was a little soft, but that volumes seem to be improving going forward.
We had the opportunity to participate in the final panel session of the Expo which was titled State and Future of the Orthopaedic Industry: Surgeon, Supplier, Strategist Perspectives. The panel was ably moderated by Don Urbanowicz. We were joined on the panel by John Pracyk, MD, PhD of J&J DePuy along with Mark Kemp, President of Tecomet.
