Norman P. Eckley

Advisory Board, Healthcare and Medical Devices

is a dynamic business leader with nearly 30 years of success driving sales growth in trauma fixation and joint reconstruction devices. As an advisor to Kinsella Group and our clients, Mr. Eckley draws on his experience as the former President of Medartis, Inc. (the U.S. subsidiary of Medartis AG, the Switzerland-based manufacturer of precision fracture fixation devices), and as a senior executive of sales and marketing at several top medical-device businesses. An exceptional analyst, manager and communicator, Mr. Eckley helps growth companies and established corporations develop the talent, networks and structures necessary to maximize market opportunities, sustain growth, and build stronger connections between clinicians and industry.

As President of Medartis, and previously as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Mr. Eckley led the company from start-up to respected competitor in the crowded, $240-million U.S. radius/hand fracture market. Following the 2006 FDA approval of the Medartis line of specialty extremity products, Mr. Eckley oversaw the company’s growth from new entrant to 6 percent market share as of 2014. During this time, he established the company’s strategic direction and marketing campaigns, expanded his national team of sales professionals and distributor sales representatives, worked with the board of directors to evaluate new market opportunities and realize P&L/ROI goals, communicated directly with key clinical and industry opinion leaders, and helped land a number of key accounts. As a result of his leadership, Medartis achieved average annual sales growth of 40% year over year.

Prior to joining Medartis, Mr. Eckley served for more than 20 years as senior sales manager for Stryker Orthopaedics and for two companies acquired by Stryker, Howmedica, Inc., and Professional Orthopedics. He created, trained and led a team of 30 account managers driving sales of trauma and joint reconstruction devices at acute care facilities across the northeastern United States. He also was responsible for managing inventory/account logistics, provided on-site sales/clinical support, and mentored personnel to ensure exceptional product knowledge and sales productivity. He regularly received Awards of Excellence for his record of success building and expanding the companies’ sales to major hospitals and health systems. Prior to this, he served as a hospital and physician representative for SmithKline Clinical Laboratories (now GlaxoSmithKline).

Mr. Eckley serves on the Corporate Advisory Council of the American Society of Surgery of the Hand and on the Exhibitors Advisory Council of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is active in issues related to medical device taxation and market research, and serves as an advisor to the organizations’ scholarship and fellowship programs.

Mr. Eckley has studied Advanced Leadership at the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania and attended the Gallup Leadership Institute at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Bloomsburg University.
